The Differences Between Tabata and HIIT Interval Training

When looking for a HIIT personal trainer in Woodbridge, you probably have one specific thought in mind – you want interval training. Did you know that there are types of interval training? Tabata and HIIT are two of the most common words you hear in the fitness world. While I am qualified and able to train you in both of these methods if you use my personal training Woodbridge services, I think it is in your best interest to know the difference so you can choose what you want.

They are Similar to One Another

Both Tabata and HIIT are interval training methods which use high intensity exercise sessions that alternate with short rest periods. As a qualified Woodbridge personal training instructor, I can assist you in perfecting both of these. In Maple, it is important for the average client of mine to get their workouts in before work (or during it). Interval training is the best way to do so.

The Three Major Differences

Tabata workouts involve working out for twenty seconds and resting for ten. This is quite standard. HIIT, on the other hand, is a little less intense with up to two minutes of working out and as much of rest. The ratio is what matters here – in my Tabata routines, I incorporate a 2:1 work to rest ratio while in my HIIT workouts it is a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio, meaning you get more rest with the latter.

The second big difference is the heart rate I’m aiming for with each method. When I train you in Tabata workouts, I push your heart to over 100% of its normal rate, while with HIIT I stay below 100%. This means that Tabata will leave you far more exhausted at the end than HIIT, but you stand to reach your workout goals in less time too.

One final difference is how long you spend working out. As a working class person looking for a personal trainer Maple, your priority is saving time. Tabata typically takes less time than HIIT to complete, with the average Tabata workout I create being about 5 minutes long. HIIT routines, on the other hand, can last for about twenty at least.
